We have
been in business since 1994 (Truckin' Buddy went on the
market in 1995). That is about a thousand years in computer
time. To put it in perspective, the internet software you
are using, Netscape or Internet Explorer, did not exist
then. We have learned a few things over the years.
Return
Policy
You buy
it, you own it*. If you are reading this now, you have
access to our web site, and can download a demonstration
product. Whatever you buy from us, it will be as good or
better than the demonstration.
Years
ago we had a money back guarantee, but people took unfair
advantage of it. Some customers really did not like the
product, and gave detailed reasons (sometimes two pages
worth!), but other customers would send products back with
vague notes stating they were "not satisfied" with the
product. Sometimes we would follow up on these returns, but
the customer would refuse to tell us what was wrong with the
product. We don't believe those customers. We believe they
are still using the product today. Once we had an
"unsatisfied" customer return the product. A year later we
had a discount version upgrade, and that customer attempted
to purchase the upgrade. We once got a product back from a
customer, and the customer had placed a note on the manual
to their secretary. The note read, "Copy this manual before
mailing."
Very few
software products are returnable today. The ones that are
are either new, unknown products or ones (like
Quickbooks®) that have elaborate password registration
functions that make it impossible for customers to continue
using returned products.
*Note:
no one "owns" software. Software is licensed. These licenses
are essentially lifetime leases with specific limitations on
who can use the software and how.
Conflicts
with Your Existing Computer The
computer industry is a wild place with few standards. People
don't want to pay someone else for their ideas, so they
create their own, and thus another "standard". There is no
magic way to test software and make sure it is compatible
with all this mess. The computer on your desk is,
statistically, a "Windows" machine, but that is not a
"standard". You could be running Windows 95 rev A, rev B, or
rev C, a Plus! pack, or service pack 1 or 2, or the Internet
Explorer active desktop, or Windows 98, Millenium Edition,
Windows NT: service packs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 (!), or
Windows 2000 (and coming soon, Windows XP). You could have
an Intel 486 (very rare now), Pentium, Pentium II, Pentium
III Xeon, Pentium 4, AMD K-5, K-6, Cyrix, or IBM processor.
Then there are the hundreds of motherboard manufacturers,
and we haven't even discussed your installed
software.
There
are millions of computer configurations. You may encounter a
problem in Truckin' Buddy that requires a change in your
existing computer. This is not a defect in Truckin' Buddy.
This is an unavoidable reality.
This is
another reason we no longer accept returns. Occasionally we
would get customers with poorly made (I didn't say cheap!
some of these were pricey) computers that had serious
problems. Installing Truckin' Buddy would push these
machines over the edge. The return policy became a form of
blackmail. "Fix my computer or I return this @!#$
product!".
Again,
if the demonstration works on your computer, the full
product should have no problem.
